My name is Susana Rodriguez, I am the owner and trainer of Cortijo De Los Angeles. I was born in Granada, Spain. My family traditionally has been involved with horses for generations and so have I, for over forty years now. I have completed many courses in the Real Maestranza de Caballeria, Ronda, Granada and in the Real Escuela Andaluza Del Arte Ecuestre, Jerez, Cadiz. I have had the opportunity to visit Andalusian horses and their owners around North America. I have seen them with a snaffle set in their mouths, I have witnessed them fighting against tight reins, heavy hands, forcing them to stretch out like a warm blood and to over bend. I have seen them performing circus numbers, I have seen the dragging their heads down like quarter horses in reining contests...their spirits broken, their genes altered, their pride shattered...in the name of versatility, in the name of marketing...profits versus horses. Cortijo De Los Angeles only trains Andalusians for Spanish Equestrian disciplines, with Spanish methods, Spanish saddles, Spanish tack and music. Our horses are socialized with other horses; stallions are in the herd with other stallions and geldings, they learn to be horses. We train our horses (and maybe your horses) for exhibition with Garrocha and Doma Vaquera. Starting them in the round pen with no tack and the methods of natural horsemanship, followed by the basic Doma training with serreta, then with four reins. We finish our training with the advanced Doma Vaquera and the work with Garrocha with two reins...all of it with music. Lastly, our horses are taken out on the trails and are ridden in the wilderness of our beautiful Canadian Mountains...then and only then, our horses are ready.
